Amidst rising concerns about the state of insecurity in the country, youths under the aegis of Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) have called for a revolution through advocacy to change the narrative of security issues.

According to them, young people are actually the key players, used to perpetuate most of these acts of insecurity, owing to several factors such as unemployment. Hence, the need for youths emancipation through mind revolution.

The Lagos State Youth Council President of the YMCA, Kayode Oyeniran, explained the urgent need for consistent advocacy and education to change youths’ perception about system’s failure and instead empower themselves to abate further injustices.

Speaking on Security of Life and Property: Which Way Nigeria, at the association’s 2020 week celebrations, Veteran Journalist and Life Coach, Kunle Jenrola, said government has failed Nigerians because they are overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem.

According to him, the status quo is not acceptable, and it seems the alternative is either the reality of a split down the middle or
anarchy, which is not an option.

Jenrola noted that President Muhamadu Buhari is always condoning at every situation and never nip anything to the bud, adding that the
government is in retardation of its responsibilities to Nigerians.

In his view, until the laws of the land, which are vital instruments of change are revisited, government can’t get it right. He advanced that the situation calls for a strategic and holistic approach of revisiting the basis of true federalism, and ultimately the
basis of our communion as a country.
