Young Men’s Christian Association of Lagos (YMCA) has urged government at all levels to formulate policies that will alleviate poverty and reduce hunger in the country. This, they said would solve the current and long-term problems the country is facing in order to restore the dwindling economy to a good state.

A Venerable at Bishop Adelakun Howells’s Memorial Church Surulere and a member of the YMCA, Ven. Adekola Moses Adetokunbo, who spoke at in the 2016 annual general meeting of the association, said the stability of the nation depends on achieving sustainable developmental set goals.

He said: “The aims of the YMCA are to end poverty and hunger in the nation. The future is where there is enough food and job and you don’t have kids roaming the streets. Lets end poverty in all its forms by committing to cutting the number of people living in extreme poverty to the barest minimum as million of Nigerians still live on less than $1.25 a day.”

The YMCA not minding the present state of the economy gave out scholarships and bursary awards to a number of exceptional students. They include Okon Godwin, Onikute Yetunde, Shonowo Oluwatunmise, Ogunade Seun Samuel, and Kalejaiye Abimbola amongst many others.
